Chairman and Director

Patrice Motsepe has more than 12 years of experience in the mining industry. He is currently the executive chairman of ARM, the non-executive chairman of Harmony and the deputy chairman of Sanlam Limited, a leading financial services organization in South Africa. Patrice was a partner in one of the largest law firms in South Africa, Bowman Gilfillan Inc and was a visiting attorney in the USA with the law firm, McGuire Woods Battle and Boothe. In 1994 he founded Future Mining, which grew rapidly to become a successful contract mining company. In 1997, he formed ARMgold which listed on the JSE in 2002. ARMgold merged with Harmony in 2003 and this ultimately led to the takeover of Anglovaal Mining (Avmin) by ARM. In 2002 he was voted South Africa’s Business Leader of the Year by the CEO’s of the top 100 companies in South Africa. In the same year, he was winner of the Ernst & Young Best Entrepreneur of the Year Award. His various business responsibilities include being president of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), which is the voice of organized business in South Africa. He is also president of Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club. Patrice holds Bachelor of Arts (Legal) and Bachelor of Laws degrees, both from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Joaquim Chissano (67)
Deputy Chairman and Director

Joaquim Chissano is the former President of Mozambique. He was one of the founding members of the Liberation Front of Mozambique, a political movement that fought for the independence of Mozambique. Shortly after Mozambique gained independence in 1975, he was appointed as the country's foreign minister. In 1986, he became President of Mozambique, and later contested and won the multi-party national elections in both 1994 and 1999. Choosing not to run for another term, he left office in February 2005. From 2003 to 2004, he served as chairman of the African Union, which was founded in July 2002 as the successor of the Organization for African Unity. In April 2005, he became a non-executive director of both ARM and Harmony.

Director, President and Chief Executive Officer

Rick Menell has over 30 years of experience in the mining industry, with particular expertise in exploration, corporate management and finance. He is a director of ARM, and the chairman of Bateman Engineering B.V. Prior to 1982, he was an exploration geologist. From 1982 to 1986, as a merchant banker with JP Morgan in New York, United States and Melbourne, Australia, his duties included providing corporate finance and trading services to the mining and construction clients of the bank. During his stay in Australia, Rick also served as an executive director of Delta Gold, an Australian mining company. He joined Avmin, now ARM, in 1992 and became that company's chief executive officer in 1999, executive chairman in 2002, and non-executive deputy chairman in 2004. He is also a director of The Standard Bank Group and Mutual & Federal. He has served recently as chairman of The South African Tourism Board, as director of Telkom SA, the World Gold Council and as president of the South African Chamber of Mines. Rick has a Master of Arts from Cambridge University and a Master of Science from Stanford University.

Director

Frank Abbott has over 25 years of experience in the mining industry. Subsequent to year-end, Frank was seconded to Harmony as acting financial director for six months, and he will serve as a non-executive director of ARM for that period, after which he will resume his position as finance director. In 1992, he was appointed financial controller of Randgold & Exploration Company, a South African gold mining company, and served as its financial director between 1994 and 1997. Until that year, he was also a director of the gold mining companies Blyvooruitzicht, Buffelsfontein and Durban Roodepoort Deep and a non-executive director of Harmony, culminating in his appointment as financial director of Harmony in the same year. Frank has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Pretoria, a Master of Business Leadership from the University of South Africa, and is a Chartered Accountant (South Africa).

Norman Hardie is a business consultant, with over 31 years of experience as a mining company manager and executive.Since 1996, he has served on the boards of several companies including Pangea Goldfields, Meota Resources, Moydow Mines International, Tan Range Exploration, Crew Development Corporation, Canada Dominion Resources and Anatolia Minerals Development. From 1996 to 1999, Norman served initially as group general manager responsible for North America of Normandy Mining, and subsequently as a consultant to the company. Between 1987 and 1996, he was vice president of Inmet Mining Corporation, coordinating marketing and operations of several mining projects. Prior to that, Norman served as an executive and manager at Phillipp Brothers, Inc., a commodity and metals trading company, and at subsidiaries of the Anglo American Corporation. He has a Bachelor of Science in mining engineering from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa and a Master of Economics from Cambridge University.

Murray Hitzman has 30 years of experience in the mining industry. He joined the faculty of the Colorado School of Mines in June 1996 where he is currently the Charles Fogarty Professor of Economic Geology. From 2002 until his resignation in August 2007, Murray served as the head of the Geology and Geological Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines. From 1994 to 1996, Murray worked with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Prior to that, he was the general manager of Chevron Mineral Corporation. Since April 1996, he has been a director of Mansfield Minerals, a company listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. Murray holds bachelor degrees in anthropology and geology from Dartmouth College, a master in geology from the University of Washington, a doctorate from Stanford University and an environmental management certificate from George Washington University. He is a certified professional geologist with the American Institute of Professional Geologists (United States), a registered European geologist with the Federation of European Geologists and a registered environmental manager with the National Registry of Environmental Professionals (United States).

George Jones has over 31 years of experience in the mining industry. He held various senior positions with Noranda Inc. and its related companies beginning in January 1988, including serving as the president of Noranda Zinc from March 2000 until his retirement in July 2003. George is a director of Franc-Or Inc. and Logistec Inc., both listed on the TSX, and is a trustee of Noranda Income Fund, which is also listed on the TSX. George holds a Bachelor of Arts from Carlton University, an executive MBA from the University of Western Ontario and has studied advanced management at INSEAD, France.

Director

Michael King has over 31 years of experience in the mining industry. In 1974, he joined Anglo American Corporation, as a manager in the company's finance division. He was finance director from 1979 until 1997 when he was appointed executive deputy chairman. Over the past ten years, Michael has been a director of a number of companies in the Anglo American group of companies including, from May 1999 until his retirement in May 2001, being the executive vice-chairman of Anglo American plc. He has been a director of ARM since August 2003. Michael holds a certificate in theory of accountancy from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Arné Lewis
Director, Chief Operating Officer (38)

Arné Lewis has 19 years of experience in the mining industry, notably in respect of underground and open-pit mining in the platinum group metals, base metal and gold sectors. Prior to joining TEAL, he was responsible for operations at ARM Platinum, a division of ARM. From 2002 to 2004, Arné was the vice president of South African Operations for Avmin. Prior to that, he was the general manager of the Nkomati Nickel Mine in South Africa.

Arné is a professional engineer and holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Pretoria, South Africa; a Master of Science degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa; and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Henley Management College, England.

Hannes has 11 years experience in the mining industry. Prior to joining TEAL in 2006 as chief financial officer, he held the position of senior financial manager: business development with AngloGold Ashanti where he gained extensive experience in all facets of corporate finance during his seven year tenure at that company. While at AngloGold Ashanti he also worked in the DRC and Tanzania on short-term secondments. Prior to joining AngloGold Ashanti, he was employed by Randgold Resources, during which time he spent over two years working at a mining operation in Mali. He completed his articles with a South African accounting firm and he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce, with Honors, in accounting from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and is a chartered accountant (South Africa).

Dan Simelane has over 10 years of experience in the mining industry. Prior to joining the mining industry he worked as a senior tax consultant at a large South African audit company and then as project finance manager for a financial institution. Dan then joined a South African law firm where he completed his articles. He joined the mining industry in 1996 at Avmin as a legal advisor, leaving a few years later to join the Swaziland Electricity Board in the same capacity. In the year 2000, Dan joined ARMgold as director of business development and compliance, leaving in 2004 to pursue various personal interests. Prior to joining ARM in 2007 as the executive, business development, Africa, he was employed by Lafarge South Africa as the executive responsible for its conversion strategy for all its mining licences in South Africa. In 1985, Dan obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Law) degree, which he completed at the University of Swaziland and in 1987 finished his LLB at the same university. In 1991, he obtained his LLM in International Business Law at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. He obtained a Higher Tax Diploma at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1994.

Director

André Wilkens has 38 years of experience in the mining industry and is currently the chief executive officer of ARM. In 1969, he began his career with Anglo American Corporation, and in 1993 was appointed mine manager of that company's Vaal Reefs South Mine, a position he held until 1998. From 1999 to 2003, André was the chief executive officer of ARMgold and, from 2003 to 2004, was the chief operating officer of Harmony following its merger with ARMgold. Prior to being appointed chief executive officer of ARM, he was the chief executive of ARM Platinum, a division of ARM. André holds a Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency awarded by South Africa's Minerals and Energy Department and a management diploma from the University of South Africa. He has completed the RMIIA, a risk management course, through the International Loss Control Institute in Atlanta, Georgia.

Executive, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Alyson D‘Oyley has experience in providing legal advice to companies in mining and other resource sectors. In 2005, she was a member of the team of legal advisors to TEAL in connection with its IPO. Before joining TEAL, she practised in the Toronto and Johannesburg offices of a Canadian law firm. Alyson has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Laws degree from Temple University in Philadelphia. She is admitted to the Law Society of British Columbia, the Law Society of Upper Canada and the State of New York Bar.

Executive, Vice President, Investor Relations and Corporate Development

Julian Gwillim has 22 years experience in the mining industry. Prior to joining the company, he was director of investor relations with a South African communications company focusing on mining-related investor communication activities. Between 1985 and 2004, he was employed by Avmin in a public relations role and later formed, and had responsibility for, the investor relations unit. In 2002, he was appointed vice president: corporate development for Avmin. During 2004, he spent a short time at Harmony in its new business division.

Executive, Vice President, Exploration and Business Development

Claus Schlegel has 23 years of experience in the mining industry with expertise in all aspects of corporate management, mine evaluation, feasibility studies and mineral exploration. From July 2004 until joining TEAL, Claus was executive: new business for ARM where his responsibilities included managing ARM's non-South African assets as well as carrying out project evaluations and studies. From July 2000 to June 2004, as manager of business development and exploration at Avmin, he was responsible for new business development and the management of that company's exploration assets, which included the evaluation and conducting of feasibility studies for a number of projects and operations. While at Avmin, he was chief geologist from February 1994 to June 2000 and, prior to that, was a senior geochemist/geologist involved in a number of mine due diligence studies and managing various drill-out programs that led to feasibility studies. Claus has a Master of Science degree in geology from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and is a member of both the Society of Economic Geologists and the South African Geological Society.
